Kite season

So, kite season is right now, when the winds are blowing very strong.  It is a fun time of the year and it's a creative thing for the children to do with their time.  99% of the kites that are flown are homemade by the Grenadians.  All homemade kites are made with 5 sticks, one being bent in a curve with a string across it and a plastic glued on the string to where it buzzes very loud when flying in the breeze. The plastic is just grocery bags, and the tail is old sheets or bags tied together.  Some kite strings get tied to a post all day and night and it sounds like a pesty mosquito that doesn't go away.

(I'm so sorry for the blurry pictures.  I just am not a photographer and I can't figure out what's wrong with me and the camera.)

When a kite string tears or a kite goes down for some reason, and it lands on the island, the kite is free for the taking.  This is a kite we found while hiking one day.  Caleb had a lot of fun flying it cause it was bigger and it would almost lift him off the ground at times.  Sadly, this kite is out at sea now.

I don't think it would be a stretch to say Danny made 30 kites this season.  He supplied our whole family with a kite or two.

Our church had a kite day (Easter Monday).  We had fun running around trying to get kites up, untangling string, and yes, watching kites fall to the ocean.  There were a few that happily flew their kites way up high and never had any problems.

This is what you do when someone on the other end of the string yells, "Heave" !!!!

5:30 Easter Sunday, we had a sunrise service on this high point.  It was a beautiful morning even though it rained for about 3 minutes.  We just pulled blankets and jackets over our heads and soon ended the service.

Matt Orendorf's family was here over Easter.

In the middle of this picture you will see a playing field.  That is the Limes playing field right out from where we live.  The dark blue to the left of the playing field is crates from the brewery.  Right under that is a white roof, that is the church.  To the left of the church is a lighter blue roof....that's us!

  3. Thanks so much for sharing the photos, especially the last one! I enjoyed zooming in and getting the feeling that I was there! The limes was home to me for six years and I lived in the green roof house down from the church for the last two of those years. Please keep taking and posting photos!:-) Blessings, Karen (Nell) Heisey
